Day 43

But Lord I Don't Like Waiting!

“Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!” Psalm 27:14 NKJ

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 NKJ

In a day where almost everything we want or need is available instantly the idea of waiting has become a foreign concept to most people. We have become so accustomed to pushing a button and getting what we want. Think about this for a minute. If we want to talk to a person on the other side of the world we push a button on our phone and are instantly connected. If we are hungry we pop something in a microwave, push a button, and within minutes our dinner is ready. We get in our car and push a button to listen to music, turn the lights on, control the temperature, get directions, etc.

We can go online and buy airline tickets, movie tickets, concert tickets, clothes, electronics, and much more just by pushing a button on our computer. If we want something we can’t afford we can use a credit card to make the purchase. If we want a house we can’t afford we can take out a loan. Seriously, there isn’t much we can’t have instantly if we really want it! While technology is amazing and it gives us the opportunity to do things we have never done before; I believe the blessing has become a curse for many people, because it has taken away their ability to wait!

All throughout Scripture we see verses that tell us to wait upon the Lord. We read stories of people who were instructed to wait. I understand that waiting can be difficult but the heroes of the faith inherited the blessings of God through practicing faith and patience during times of waiting. Remember what Hebrews 6:9-12 says, “But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner. For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”

Walk into any maternity ward in a hospital and look for a woman who is fighting off premature labor. Ask her why she doesn’t want that baby to come early. Do you know what she will say? She will tell you that the baby faces life threatening complications if it is born prematurely and they do not want to take that risk. So they are doing everything possible to keep that baby from being born prematurely. While the mother of the baby understands the importance of waiting patiently and praying fervently in her times of waiting; most Christians don’t view waiting on God in the same way. They feel they need to make life happen right now and they will do anything to get instant results.

It is important to understand that anything born prematurely will come with complications just like the premature baby. The mother also knows that premature death is also a possibility so she is even more willing to wait patiently. This is a possibility in our lives as well if we try to make things happen prematurely. Look at the number of people who rushed into marriage because they couldn’t wait, and have experienced the death of the marriage through divorce. Look at the number of people who bought houses knowing they couldn’t afford them, only to experience the death of the American dream within a few years.

Or look at the person who dreamed of owning their own business, but refused to do their due diligence, and are suffering the consequences from the complications of the business. Learning to wait on the Lord is important! He has plans for us and there is a perfect timing for those plans are to be executed! But when we try to make it happen in our own strength we are inviting unnecessary complications.

I want to encourage you to spend time asking God to reveal any area in your life where you may lack patience and find it hard to wait. Read the stories of people who were instructed to wait on the Lord and look at the complications that came to those who refused to wait. If God has given you a dream or vision He will execute it in your life, in His perfect timing. If you want to see it manifest right now, take a time out! Practice being patience! Cast your cares on Him and wait confidently in faith, until it manifests!

Prayer: I will practice being patient as I wait on you. I believe by faith that as I wait You will renew my strength and I will be encouraged. I believe by faith that You have plans for me and I believe that Your timing for those plans to manifest, is perfect! I rejoice in knowing that I will inherit the blessings You have promised me. Amen
